SUMMARY of detailed admission conditions for the position of
Head (m/f) of the film and non-film collections
with employee status

The administrative authorities of the City of Luxembourg are proposing to recruit a full-time Head (m/
f) of Archives for the Cinematheque’s requirements. The person will have the status of an employee,
with a permanent contract of employment.

a) Conditions for eligibility:

citizen of a Member State of the European Union as specified in the law of 18 December
2009 modifying access conditions for Community citizens to public-sector organisations in
Luxembourg;
able to demonstrate appropriate knowledge of the country’s three administrative languages
(French, German and Luxembourgish) as described in the law of 24 February 1984 on the
conditions governing languages;
possession of a certificate indicating the completion of secondary (or technical secondary)
education, or a qualification recognised by the National Education minister as equivalent, and
a Luxembourg or foreign university qualification relating to a course of studies of at least four
years, with specialisation in (the history of) cinema or film archiving.

The higher-education qualifications must be recorded in the register of qualifications provided for in
the law of 17 June 1963 aimed at protecting the titles relating to higher education.

b) Responsibilities and tasks:

Responsibilities:

The Head of Archives will be subject to the general instructions of the Cinematheque’s General
Manager, responsible for managing the institution’s film and non-film archives, that is the collections
of films, posters, photos, books and magazines, while also being responsible for day-to-day
management of the Cinematheque’s technical team (archivist-operators).

Tasks:

Preserving, restoring and enriching the film and non-film archives, and introducing appropriate
developments.
Developing and implementing policy on cataloguing, scientific analysis and digitisation of the
film and non-film archives.
Taking proactive initiatives as part of a policy to make best use of the archives.
Day-to-day management of the technical team and of the work-flow between the archive and
programming departments.
Ensuring adherence to a policy of quality in relation to the projection of film copies as part of
the programming activities.

This task list is not exhaustive, and is subject to modification in accordance with the department’s

c) Profile required:

To be able to fulfil the requirements, the candidate should have:

a good knowledge of film history and of the challenges presented by the cinematographic heritage;
with specific knowledge of film-archiving techniques, and experience gained in a heritage-
conservation institution being an advantage.
good team-management capabilities.
a good knowledge of IT methods.
the skills and abilities listed below:
o creative and analytical mind, with a proactive approach;
o a focused approach, with good ability to organise and co-ordinate;
o ability to work independently, but also to motivate and to work in a team;
o leadership capabilities and charisma;

d) Documents to be submitted:

1) employment application (quoting reference No.: 494/S-archi)
2) birth or marriage certificate;
3) detailed curriculum vitae, showing exact periods for studies and previous employment;
4) copy of national identity card or passport;
5) recent extract from the legal records showing any criminal convictions (from the Cité Judiciaire,

Bâtiment BC, Plateau du St. Esprit, Luxembourg);

6) certificates and diplomas relating to studies (original documents or copies);
7) for candidates who completed their secondary education abroad: approval document, issued
by the minister responsible for National Education, in respect of the certificate relating to
completion of secondary education;
8 ) copy of the entry relating to higher studies, in the academic-qualifications register provided for
in the abovementioned law of 17 June 1963 (obtainable from Ministère de la Culture, de l’Enseignement

Supérieur et de la Recherche, 20, Montée de la Pétrusse, Luxembourg);

e) Recruitment procedure:
The appointment will be made on the basis of application dossiers, interviews and, if relevant, other
procedures to be decided on in relation to the actual situation.
The candidate selected will have to undergo a medical examination carried out by an occupational
health physician, in application of the provisions of Article L-326-1 of the law of 31 July 2006
introducing Luxembourg’s Employment Code. The specific arrangements for the medical examination
will be notified in due course.
