Filmreakter’s regular double feature at the Cinémathèque this month steers clear of zombies, Nazis and gore and focuses on the super cool dudes of 70s “Blaxploitation” movies Superfly and Scream, Blacula, Scream.

superfly

Gordon Parks Jr’s Superfly is one of the classics of the genre, as one would expect from the son of the director of Shaft. Ron Earl plays a cocaine dealer looking for one last big score before giving up his life of crime. The film is, however, probably best remembered for its brilliant soundtrack, written and performed by Curtis Mayfield.

The second film on the good old fashioned double feature sees William Marshall reprise his Blacula character in Scream, Blacula, Scream. The film also stars Blaxploitation queen Pam Grier (who went on to star as Foxy Brown and later Tarantino’s Jackie Brown).

Tickets at just six euro include drinks at the interval. And as usual, the Cinémathèque will be transformed and the audience is encouraged to dress appropriately, so dig out your best Huggy Bear finery and strut your sweet stuff down to the Cinémathèque for 10 p.m. this Friday.
