TONIGHT: Cinélunatique presents Kurotokage (Le Lézard Noir)

Published by at 16:04 under Filmreakter,Screening Room

KUROTOKAGE (Le Lézard Noir / Black Lizard)
Japan 1968 | Japanese w. french subtitles | 86’ | Dir: Kinji Fukasaku | Starring Akihiro Maruyama, Isao Kimura, Kikko Matsuoka

In this strange and stylish film by one of Japan’s master directors a shy but stubborn detective plunges down a rabbit hole of psychedelic depravity in his quest for a female jewel thief named Black Lizard (played by famous Japanese drag star Akihiro Maruyama).
Among modern cinema-goers director Kinji Fukasaku is perhaps best known for his last completed film Battle Royale, which as great as it is, is only a glimpse into the immense and consistently interesting work this man has created in a career spanning four decades. 1968’s Black Lizard counts among his great early works and is still fairly rare to come by.

Tonight 22h00 at the Cinématheque – 17, place du Théâtre L-2613 Luxembourg
