MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL SET FOR DELUX PRODUCTION ‘HYSTERIA
Production of ‘Hysteria’ is scheduled to begin this October in London and Luxembourg,

‘Hysteria’ is the latest indie rom-com to get Hollywood all a flutter, apparently the film will centre around the largely accidental creation of the vibrator in Victorian England, with Hugh Dancy and Jonathan Pryce as doctors treating the titular medical issue in women. To help with their inexplicable emotional outbursts (got to love that Victorian attitude, eh?), Dancy and scientist pal Rupert Everett try a newly invented electrical device. Gyllenhaal, meanwhile, will be Pryce’s daughter.

Maggie said “I play a firecracker whose father is a doctor who is in the business of curing hysterical women. He cures them basically by getting them off and that actually happened. I end up having a sort of unexpected love affair with this guy who works for him, and who by mistake invents the vibrator.”

Production of ‘Hysteria’ is scheduled to begin this October in London and Luxembourg, with plans for a 2011 release, it will be directed by Tanya Wexler, who has just two film credits to her name, the most recent being ‘Ball in the House’ released in 2001.

The movie chronicles the invention of the vibrator, which was supposedly used by a doctor as a means of treating hysteria in women.
