The death of a Mexican pilot, Captain Ruben Ocano, on January 29th last made some headlines in Cork newspapers as he is remembered for being the pilot who had to crash land on Mallow Racecourse in April 1983 in a Mexican Gulfstream II jet. The incident resulted in an emergency runway having to be built at the racecourse, while the pilot himself enjoyed a five week stay in Mallow where he was quite the celebrity. See a recent news piece about it here.

Now, a film depicting the event  is set to get underway this year in association with Fastnet Films (creator of the recent Irish hitKisses). The film, entitled The Runway, will be directed by Ian Power who also wrote the feature script, and it seems that Lucil Films, which are based in Luxembourg are co-producing.
