Irish Film LOVE ETERNAL Begins Production with Rising Star Robert de Hoog

30th Sep 2011
LOVE ETERNAL is the latest Irish film to go into production this year. The film is based on the Japanese novel ‘Loving the Dead’ from acclaimed author Kei Oishi (Apartment 1303, The Last Supper), the film centres on a damaged young man who after shutting himself away for ten years is forced to venture out into a world that he no longer understands.

The production films for six weeks on location in Cobh County Cork and Luxembourg and has been set up hot on the heels of the recent Irish Luxembourg co-production treaty signed by the Minister for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht Jimmy Deenihan during the Galway Film Festival this year. As a result of filming on location in Cork, the project creates short term jobs and spend on local goods and services in the Cork region. The Irish expenditure on this project is estimated at just over €1 million.

Written and directed by Brendan Muldowney whose debut picture SAVAGE received eight Irish Film and Television Academy Award nominations, the film features rising star Robert de Hoog, recipient of the Golden Calf Best Actor Award and an International Emmy Best Actor nomination for his performance in Skin. Other cast includes Pollyanna McIntosh, the star of The Woman which received its premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and recently earned her the Best Actress award at Film4’s FrightFest, Amanda Ryan (Jude) and Declan Conlon (Hereafter).

Love Eternal is one of a number of projects currently in production in Ireland at the moment. Other productions include TITANIC: Blood and Stone, a 12 part mini-series which is planned to broadcast at the time of the 100th anniversary of the infamous vessel’s launch and subsequent loss early next year. Irish director Ciaran Donnelly (The Tudors) is at the helm. The production is currently filming in Dublin and Wicklow. Lenny Abrahamson, the talented directed behind Garage and Adam and Paul is shooting his latest film WHAT RICHARD DID in Dublin. The cast includes Irish acting talent Lorraine Pilkington, Jack Reynon, Sam Keeley and Roisin Murphy. And finally the Bollywood blockbuster EK THA TIGER is still shooting around Dublin and is set to invest €1.2 million in the Irish economy and create more than 1,000 short-term jobs.

Love Eternal is produced by Irish company Fastnet Films whose previous credits include KISSES, THE GOOD DOCTOR, THE RUNWAY and COLONY, Red Lion S.a.r.l., Rinkel Films BV and T.O. Entertainment, Inc. The film is an Irish/Luxembourg/Dutch/Japanese coproduction with finance coming from the Bord Scannán na hÉireann/Irish Film Board, Film Fund Luxembourg, the Netherlands Film Fund, T.O. Entertainment, Inc and Atlantic Screen Music Ltd. Producers are Conor Barry, Morgan Bushe and Macdara Kelleher for Fastnet Films, Jeanne Geiben and Pol Cruchten for Red Lion S.a.r.l., Reinier Selen for Rinkel Film BV and Ray Kamiya and Lindsey Newman for T.O. Entertainment, Inc.

Love Eternal is scheduled for international release in 2012.
