(CS) Luxembourg production company Iris Group has optioned the rights to bring Grand Duchy-set corporate thriller The Candidate to the big screen.

Written by Daniel Pembrey, the novella tells the story of a headhunter who is asked to recruit a high-flying executive for a company, but the ideal candidate turns out to be not what she seems.

Pembrey wrote the short novel a year after working at Amazon in Luxembourg, self-publishing his work on the Kindle platform. “I think Luxembourg is a great location for a story. It lends itself so well to dramatic fiction. You never know where exactly a story comes from but it was very much encouraged by my time there and the nature of Luxembourg as a place,” Pembrey told wort.lu/en in a previous interview.

In a newsletter sent out on Friday, Pembrey announced that an on-screen adaptation is now in the works.

The author has joined the project as one of three credited screenwriters.

Iris Group most recently made headlines by bringing British star Emma Watson to Luxembourg for filming of Colonia Dignidad, together with German actor Daniel Brühl.
