EFP, OMDC and TIFF announce strong line-up for co-production programme at TIFF

With Australia and New Zealand as guest countries, this year’s fourth edition of the trans-Atlantic networking platform PRODUCERS LAB TORONTO will be held from September 4 to 7 during the Toronto International Film Festival. The strong line-up of sought-after names includes ten dynamic producers each from across Europe and Canada and another four from Down Under.

European Film Promotion (EFP), the Ontario Media Development Corporation (OMDC), the Toronto International Film Festival®, Screen Australia (SA) and the New Zealand Film Commission (NZFC) announced the carefully selected participants today.

Financial support comes from the MEDIA Mundus programme of the European Union and from EFP and its associated member organizations, from the OMDC, TIFF, SA, NZFC, Eurimages and Telefilm Canada.

PRODUCERS LAB TORONTO has successfully enabled the development of several European-Canadian co-productions over the past few years: to date within this trans-Atlantic network, the 2011 participants have been discussing 21 projects, while the 2012 participants have been working on 25 film projects, most of them with concrete titles.

On the look-out for projects with a wider spectrum regarding financing, creativity and distribution, the 24 participants take part in pitching sessions, case studies and roundtables over a four-day period during the hustle and bustle of the Toronto International Film Festival. Various networking events with key people from the film industry and film funds complement the programme. In 2013, PRODUCERS LAB TORONTO will include producers from the guest countries, Australia and New Zealand, for the first time to extend the platform and enable European and Canadian producers to find reliable new co-production partners from these two film industries.

2012 participants in 1:1 pitching session
The participants of the PRODUCERS LAB TORONTO 2013 programme already have acclaimed co-productions on their list of credits and high-quality projects in the pipeline, which could be interesting for the international market. European participants are selected by the EFP network from the alumni of their prestigious Cannes-based networking platform Producers on the Move. Canadian producers are chosen by OMDC and TIFF from an open call across Canada, while Screen Australia and New Zealand Film Commission select the participants from their countries.
