(CS) Luxembourg coproduction “Le tout nouveau testament” (The whole new testament) has been chosen for the 68th Cannes Film Festival’s “Quinzaine des Réalisateurs” selection.

The “Quinzaine”, or Director’s Fortnight, runs parallel to the official selection and aims to showcase the works of international directors and expose them to a wider audience.

“Le tout nouveau testament” was directed by Jaco Van Dormael from Belgium and co-produced by Luxembourg production company Juliette Films. France was also involved in the production.

The film is set in Brussels where a bitter god lives together with his wife and daughter, who feels she has not received the same kind of attention as her famous brother and son of god. The 12-year-old girl in revenge decides to publish everyone’s death dates on the internet.

Belgian actor and comedian Benoît Poelvoorde stars as god, and the film also features Catherine Deneuve, Yolande Moreau and François Damiens. Luxembourg actor Marco Lorenzini stars in a supporting role.

A number of Luxembourg crew, around Juliette Films producer David Grumbach, were also involved in the co-production.

This year will not mark the first Cannes appearance for Van Dormael. In 1991 he won the Golden Camera in Cannes for best first feature, “Toto le héros”. In 1996, Pascal Duquenne and Daniel Auteuil took home the best actor prizes for Van Dormael’s film “Le huitième jour”.

The Cannes Film Festival is this year hosted from May 13 to 24 in the city on the French Riviera.

Throughout the festival the Luxembourg film industry will be represented with a stand at the festival’s international film market.
