(CS) Winning an Oscar at this year’s Academy Awards in LA might have been the highlight of their careers so far, but Mr Hublot filmmakers Alexandre Espigares and Laurent Witz on Monday took home another honour.

The team behind the first Oscar-winning film from Luxembourg, in coproduction with France, were made Officers of the Order of Merit of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg for their achievement and putting Luxembourg on the international film map.

Their film Mr Hublot, an animated short about a curious creature whose life is turned upside down by the arrival of an unexpected friend, has won more than a dozen awards at film festivals around the globe and was shown at over 40 festivals worldwide.

Earlier this year, it was able to beat Disney competition at the Oscars, while also winning the Luxembourg Film Prize.

Witz, originally from France, set up his production company Zeilt Productions in Mondercange, while Espigares, of Luxembourg and Spanish origin, has worked on numerous international productions after finishing his studies in the Grand Duchy. He currently lives and works in Munich.
